On Saturday, Dec. 12, “teacher”, Anne Little, and five “students” gathered at the Zootown Arts Community Center (ZACC) to learn some basic sewing skills. Before we were done we had 5 new shopping bags and 1” of new snow outside. MCAT filmed the workshop, which went an hour longer than planned, but everyone stuck around and finished their fabulous bags. If you participate in a future MUD sewing workshop, plan on 3 hours for instruction, practicing, and making your project.
Anne provided found and purchased fabric, patterns and directions for making a shopping bag, information about suppliers and a glossary of sewing terms to each participant. Everyone learned the vagaries of sewing machines since every one we used was different. We covered fabric selection, pinning, cutting, sewing straight lines, hemming, and a variety of sewing lingo, plus some impromptu machine repair.
We all had fun and a couple participants ended up at the
Kettle House afterward to watch the Griz defeat Appalachia. A good day enjoyed by all.
