1. Add insulation to areas of your home that do not have a sufficient amount

2. Update appliances and furnace to Energy Star appliances

3. Use rope caulk and weather stripping around leaky windows (this is often easier and more effective than window wrap)

4. Have your furnace tuned by an HVAC technician and replace the furnace filter as needed

5. Replace incandescent light bulbs with LED's or CFL’s

6. Replace worn or ineffective door sweeps and thresholds to keep drafts out

7. Unplug infrequently used appliances (especially those with digital displays)

8. Use a power strip for your entertainment system. Be sure to turn off power to the power strip when not in use. (Most appliances draw power even when they are off!)

9. Use a drying rack instead of your clothes dryer to dry clothes

10. Consider using a space heater (Energy Star rated) to heat one occupied room instead of the furnace which will heat the whole house
